Hello, dear readers. My name is Cindy. Most importantly I am a mom. I have a 20-year-old son named Josh, and my 10-year-old daughter is Rachel. Besides being a single mother, I am my elderly fathers’ caregiver. He is 84 years old and is being released from the nursing home he has been at for about a month now. He is almost completely blind and deaf so he needs a lot of help. Plus he is very cranky. I guess I would be too under the circumstances. Because he needs round the clock care I am trying to get an online handmade jewelry shop up and running. I had one open with etsy.com, but right now it is closed. I realized that I needed to learn a lot more about many various things before re-opening. First, I need to get much better at the art of jewelry making. I spend between 6-10 hours a day practicing, and hopefully, perfecting my techniques. I also realized I needed to learn more about my competition, and all of the things that go with running an online shop. Before I started this new chapter in my life I had no idea about Google Analytics, SEO, conversions, tracking, and the list goes on.
So, anyway, this is how I spend my days. Hours of learning new braiding techniques, wire wrapping, reading books, reading articles online, watching youtube videos on jewelry making, and last but not least, caring for my kids and my father. It’s going to be a long and hard learning process, but I think I’m up for it. Oh, did I mention I’m pretty much computer illiterate? Just setting up this blog is nerve wracking but I’ve always loved writing so I figured it just makes sense to document my journey. Plus I’m hoping this blog will help promote my shop once I get it up and running again.
I suppose that is all for now. I plan to post some of my learning experiences next. I’m really excited about a new technique I recently learned. It’s a Japanese braiding or weaving technique. I’ll share more on the topic next.
